A little about how I listen to music:

1) I download new song(s).

2) Listen once. If it is remotely enjoyable, it gets immediate promotion to the Top Rated playlist so I can listen to it more in my car.

3) Some songs stay on Top Rated for a few days. Some a few weeks. Only a few are on “pretty much forever.”

I’ve been grabbing sweet songs from Dragon Army. If you haven’t been to the site like I told you a few posts ago, go now and stop waiting! It’s grand and lovely!

Anyway, back to business. I snagged this little number from the site:

“Cyphonic” by Protrocity

So this starts off nice and gentle and lovely, then kicks into a great, driving beat. When the melody shows up around 1:12 it’s all awesomeness. By this point everything else has built up and can support what I think is quite a powerful melody. The middle section of the song parts from the melody and does a bit of exploring, but it’s all lovely exploring and that beat is still driving along like it should. Starts to head back toward the melody at 4:30 and keeps going till the end.

I really like the energy this song carries with it. It was a nice song to play on my drive to work (as I worried needlessly about my meeting next week). I also like that the melody is simple yet brilliant. Protrocity really expands on this simple melody throughout the song, too. Altogether an excellent piece.
