Confession: Last night I found myself thinking, “I’m glad to be off Saturday. Now I can mop my wood floors!”
I don’t know what that is or where it comes from. I really desire mopping my wood floors right now. I mopped my bedroom and there’s something satisfying. Is it the shine of the clean floor? Is it the way the floor feels under my feet? Is it the subtle almond scent with a hint of baby powder freshness? All I know is that there’s a part of me looking forward to mopping the living room and dining room now. Maybe the chemicals are killing my brain cells and I’m slowly becoming delusional. Or maybe, just maybe, my little barefoot self loves the feel of a nice, clean floor.
I am also going to a fabulous Pirate Festival with some friends. That will be really fun. Tomorrow and Monday it’s back to the regular grind of cleaning and cooking. I’m hoping to cook my edamame this weekend so it’s ready to be thrown into bento boxes and consumed. I’d also like to get a stick blender and make a butternut squash soup with my butternut squash. Then I can freeze it and enjoy it for weeks! I’d also like to roast some garlic and make an apple and carmelized onion pizza. Oh, I have plans for cooking all this stuff from the CSA! I looked around my kitchen and found the following yummy things:
- A bunch of pasta, including elbow noodles, rice noodles, spaghetti, rotini, tricolor pasta (fresh!)
- White and brown rice
- Lentils
- A sirloin steak (now thawing in the fridge)
- Two frozen chickens (yes, WHOLE CHICKENS)
- Approximately half a breast and one leg from my last roasted chicken
- Approximately one leg quarter and an undetermined amount of breast meat from a previous roast chicken, frozen for future use
- Two chickens worth of carcasses, bones, and meat scraps for stock
- A bag of frozen corn
- Mushroom turnovers from TJs
- Chicken gyoza pot stickers from TJs
- Frozen watercress soup that is past its prime
- Frozen lentil stew that is past its prime
- A bag of frozen bay scallops
- Two more servings of cheesy vegetable pasta casserole
- A huge butternut squash
- Some cheese
- Five apples
- Four bagels
- A bunch of gorgeous, fragrant purple basil
- An untold quantity of garlic
- Three russet potatoes
- A 1lb. bag of new potatoes
- An untold quantity of onions
- Enough oils and vinegars to make gourmet anything
- Staple baking goods
- A lot of eggs
- Frozen juice concentrate
- A big bag of fresh edamame
- A big bottle of cooking wine
- A Bacardi mojito drink
That’s a lot of food. I need to make something of it all. And eat it all. I was going to get some bacon for some scallop corn chowder, but I’m not sure. Maybe I will. Bacon is versatile and you can put it with a lot of things. But just looking at that staggering quantity of food makes me think that buying anything else would be a mistake. I mean, really. What single person could eat so much food? This quantity of food could easily last till next paycheck and could even feed me absurd quantities of gourmet fare for the entire month of October. I am truly fortunate. My cup runneth over!
